Trio of Apparel Licensees to produce Viz T-Shirts
Metrostar and Dennis Publishing have announced three new apparel licences for ‘Viz’.
Push Merchandising is launching a range of t-shirts into record retail, Famous Forever has secured a listing from Next and The Officers Club will launch a direct-to-retail range of t-shirts in its UK stores early next year.
The ranges feature Viz’s famous characters such as Sid the Sexist and Roger Mellie and Metrostar is working with licensees to generate new designs based upon Viz’s Top Tips and spoof ads.
Created by Chris Donald from his bedroom in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne in 1979, Viz rose to become one of biggest selling magazines in the UK. It created household names of characters like Roger Mellie, Johnny Fartpants, Buster Gonad, Sid the Sexist, The Fat Slags and Finbarr Saunders. As well as the cartoon strips, Viz featured regular items such as Roger’s Profanisaurus, Letterbocks, Top Tips and spoof ads.
Metrostar’s Claire Potter comments:
“Viz and its characters evoke great memories for a generation and yet it’s still as fresh and funny as it ever was. We’re delighted to be working with three licensees who are so excited by and ambitious for the brand. ”
