Stra Portraits with Rolf Harris

Hotbed Media’s, ‘Star Portraits with Rolf Harris’ is the most popular TV show about art ever.

The BBC One television series is both a showcase for professional portrait artists and a revealing new way of profiling famous people. It's part art show, part chat show. In each programme a well-known personality has their portrait painted by three professional artists, each of whom will be doing their best to capture the essence of the celebrity sitter using their own particular style. Rolf Harris is our guide through the paintng process, explaining the various techniques and sharing the highs and lows with the artist. Finally all three finished portraits are revealed and the celebrity chooses one to keep.

Star Portraits withRolf Harris - DVD coverAn average of 4.5 million people watched series one and two. Sitters have included Cilla Black, Mo Mowlam, Adrian Edmondson, David Dickinson, Charlie Dimmock, Michael Parkinson, Richard Wilson and Meera Syal. Series three, to be broadcast in Spring 2007, will feature Barbara Windsor, Kelly Holmes and Bill Oddie.

A free to enter exhibition ran in four venues to accompany the first two series and a dvd (Odeon Entertainment) will be released to accompany series three.

Hotbed has asked Metrostar to extend Star Portraits into other consumer products formats and we are interested in working with licensees in a number of areas from exhibitions and arts & crafts products to stationery and giftware. Metrostar is also developing a book concept with Hotbed based on the series, for submission to publishers next month.

Star Portraits’ role is to demystify and popularise the art of portrait painting. To quote Rolf, “We’ve helped people realise that art isn’t for somebody else – it’s for everyone.”

Press reaction:

“The combination of Rolf Harris’s bouncy presenting style and the various interpretations
is highly entertaining.”
Sunday Times

“The fun part is seeing the different styles and personalities of the artists and how the old charmer (Michael Parkinson) reacts to the finished product.”
The Times

“Surprisingly, it’s all rather engaging.”
Daily Telegraph

“There may well be a more intriguing half hour to be spent in front of a television this week
but I’m not sure where.”
Sunday Telegraph
